Hi Shoefly, I looked for the image in this and the German wikipedia and could not find it. I suspect the image has been deleted, possibly for coypright problems, or maybe the uploader was just mad about something (as s ometimes happens). My understanding is that images cannot be restored after deletion, so probably the best thing is to find another image. If you were the uploader, it must have glitched at uploading, or the link is misspelled. Pollinat or 21:32, Jan 18, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. I actually found out that the problem was the use of .JPG instead of .jpg.

toxicity to bees

[edit]

Hey shoefly, your article on pesticides and bees is great! Can you please contribute some to the Pesti cide article? You seem to know a ton about the chemical classifications of pesticides, and we could really use some information about that on the Pesticide page. Thanks! Bonus Onus 04:03, Mar 10, 2005 (UTC)

cool, thanks for the edit. looks good. Bonus Onus 16:49, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)

Mite and Acarology

[edit]

Hi. Are you planning on building the Acarology article? If yes, then I'll not touch the wikilink you set up for this term in the Mite article. If you aren't planning on this, then I'd like to remove the wikilink as it creates a self-reference, linking through the redirect from this term back to the Mite article.

Thanks for the information.

Speedy Deletion: Gigantour

[edit]

If you're going to nominate an article as a candidate for speedy deletion, it might be a good idea to read the Talk page first. The article is not self-promotion or advertisement, and the Gigantour is a legitimate event much like Big Day Out or Lollapalooza which all deserve articles. It might also be an idea to read this discussion. plattopusis this thing on? 15:50, Apr 10, 2005 (UTC)

For your information, I have requested assistance to get this article undeleted. plattopusis this thing on? 16:16, Apr 10, 2005 (UTC)

Dadant hybrid bees

[edit]

Hi,

Do you happen to know whether any bee supply companies are currently providing artificially inseminated queens, advertising their queens as "hybrid" (actually I guess it would be the progeny that are hybrids)? I used to get hybrid queens from A. I. Root in Medina, Ohio. I believe they are out of business now, no? Thanks. P0M 04:30, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. I didn't actually want any, I just found it interesting that the old-time commercial suppliers seem to have left the field.

I visited A.I. Root's plant in the mid 50s and found one thing quite interesting. The ladies who inserted the sheets of tissue paper between the sheets of wax did it entirely by feel, it seemed. Most of them had a paperback novel suspended in front of them which they read while they chatted and their hands moved on what seemed to be complete auto-pilot. They had quite a business in those days supplying artificially inseminated queens. Later I went to college and lost contact with the business. I never was sure that the Root queens produced workers that were as gentle as advertised. They stung me plenty. P0M 01:24, 7 September 2005 (UTC)e[reply]

Could I ask why you deleted the section on stingers from the honeybee article? DS 01:02, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy delete on Data pages for chemical compounds

[edit]

Hi,

I noticed that you moved all of the supplementary data on toluene on to the main page, and posted a speedy delete for the data page. I have reverted this, after noting that the page was incorrectly named; I have moved it to the correct new name of toluene (data page). The data page for chemical compounds is a standard part of the infobox, this is our way at WP:Chem of keeping less important data available but out of the main article (the article on toluene gets a lot of users, I believe). By moving the data tables to the main article space the article begins to look like a set of data tables rather than an encyclopedia. This policy (data pages) was the result of about one month of extensive peer review at the WikiProject, so please don't speedy delete such pages without first posting something on the relevant talk page. If you think the policy on data pages is wrong, please raise the subject with the relevant WikiProjects. Walkerma 04:25, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for yesterday's reply on my talk page. Hey, that's an interesting idea you're trying out on acetone, adding the data page to the "see also" section! We had a long debate about making the link to it obvious without it spoiling the look of the page. Now we'll see if one of my colleagues from WP:Chem reverts it....! Request for edit summary

[edit]

Thank you for your contributions. And I have a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries more often when you contribute. An edit summary helps others understand what you changed when checking the watchlist or the recent changes, and often times complements studying the diff. Think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. I hope you don't mind. :) Cheers – Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 23:45, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bees, bees and more bees

[edit]

Hi Shoefly!

Please have a look at Queen bee and try not to be cross! I haven't lost any of the copy at all, but I've put all the rellevant material under one heading, because this is an encyclopedia, not a dictionary. I figured that if someone (me, perhaps) wants to know about bees, then they don't want to have to look up four different articles just to find out about one topic, namely queen bees.

I think that if all the articles on Honey bee were put together, it would probably be much too long as there is a lot of information there. On the other hand, I think that possibly three articles on Honeybees, plus another on honey and another on beeswax would be preferable to about twenty seperate articles, some of which are only a few lines long. At this point in time, I haven't deleted the material from the other articles, just copied it all to Queen bee. Can you take a look?

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Personal Sustainability Practice, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. — Jack (talk) 22:49, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shoefly,

I like the reorganization you've been doing on the Static electricity article. I notice you recently rewrote the introductory paragraph and I feel there are some drawbacks to the way it now reads. I have posted my thoughts on the talk page to stimulate discussion of this issue and I'd appreciate your thoughts on what I've said.--DJIndica (talk) 19:49, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Biomass (ecology)

[edit]

Hi Shoefly. I see you added a table to biomass (ecology). Can you provide authoritative sources and state what measure you are using for the biomass? The biomass figures used in this article are currently a mess (my fault since I wrote most of it). Like you, I've added biomass figures for which I haven't yet found convincing sources. I've used mostly figures used elsewhere in Wikipedia. When I've approached the editors who added in those figures, they haven't been able to source them adequately either. Many of the figures quoted around the web vary in wild ways. As a group, bacteria probably form the greatest biomass, but estimates also vary hugely. Your table compares 100 million tons of humans (dry weight) with 500 million tons of Antarctic krill. But krill biomass is usually a fisheries measure, which is wet weight. Moreover, I've seen other estimates for Antarctic krill ranging between 150 and 650 million tons. Copepod estimates vary just as wildly. These problems seem to apply just about everywhere for global estimates - they vary widely, they are often uncited, and what is meant by "biomass" is often not stated. Even the seemingly more rigorous estimates of "global primary production" in the second to last paragraph are suspect. They are the up-to-date figures from a reputable source, but other sources give very different estimates. So at the moment I've thrown my hands up. --Geronimo20 (talk) 07:18, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh the 30lb "dry weight" per person was already in the article - but that would be about right. Be good if you can find more authoritative and consistent global figures than I was able to. --Geronimo20 (talk) 02:41, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flammability Limits

[edit]

You have been adding numerous entries to a table of examples in the Flammability Limit article. I note that none of these examples (yours and those from before) have source citations. That makes them somewhat problematical in Wikipedia, which seems to prefer citations for any assertion of fact that is not obvious to all. Can you add some?

I also note that the list of examples now far exceeds in legnth all the rest of the article. This seems to me to be an undesireable imballance in an artilce that is supposed to describe and explain Flammability Limits. That table began as a few examples to illustrate the text, but seems to have becom an extensive list of limits. Do you think it might be time to split most of that out as a separate article titled "List of Flammability Limits" and reference it from the main article by a wikilink? Your contributed article, Polyurethane foam

[edit]

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Polyurethane foam. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Polyurethane. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Polyurethane - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. AppuruPan (talk) 21:24, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Polyurethane foam, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Polyurethane foam. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. AppuruPan (talk) 21:30, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:09, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shoefly, I noticed you've now created more than 75 articles, and I think it is more than time to set your account as WP:Autopatrolled, so I've taken the liberty of doing that. ϢereSpielChequers 00:45, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Tributyltin azide requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you.

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Early April Pollen.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 03:25, 16 April 2011 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 03:25, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CFR and USC

The Code of Federal Regulations and the United States Code are not the same thing. The CFR is administrative law, promulgated by the executive branch, while the USC is a codification of laws which Congress has enacted. I reverted your edit. hare j 02:35, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on American Industrial Hygiene Association requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from https://www.aiha.org/about-aiha/Pages/default.aspx. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notice

The file File:May yellow2.JPG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious encyclopedic use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
